Moraine Valley Waltz

On Saturday night they closed down the town
The men came home from the mine
The ladies were wearing their white cotton dress
As pretty as snow on the pines
The children all ran to the center of town
Everyone’s here at the hall
The band started playing and the girls started swaying
And danced the Moraine valley waltz

Chorus:
Listen to the wind as she sings
Fell the warmth of the sun
Smell the flowers of spring
Listen and you’ll hear the call
And dance the Moraine valley waltz

Well the coal company came and shut down the mine
They all stood there and cried
This is the country where they raised their kids
This is where they lived and died
They all came to say their goodbyes
To life in these canyon walls
The band started playing for the very last time
The song of Moraine valley waltz

Chorus

Now the town is forgotten and the buildings are gone
Only some photos survive
No one remembers the laughter they heard
Or saw the tears that they cried
The last of her children have all passed away
There’s no one left to recall
The joy that they found in that small mountain town
When they danced the Moraine valley waltz

Chorus
